Admit it, you were brought up to believe that the only way to become more successful is to work harder.

Me too. And there's some truth to it, but only to a point. Once you develop the habit of working hard, working even harder can become counterproductive.

The problem with hustle culture is that the hustle becomes an end in itself. You start measuring your progress by how hard you work, and by how much of the rest of your life you're willing to sacrifice to do so.

There's a better way.

Instead of grinding one day after another to make incremental progress, you can commit to an impossible goal. Here's an example: I want to work much less so that I can grow my business much faster

Sounds impossible, right? But that's what makes it work. When you commit to an impossible goal, you rewire your brain to create a level of clarity and focus that will take your breath away.

Instead of drowning in the details of running a business that always seem to end up on your doorstep because you're the boss, when you commit to an impossible goal, you suddenly know exactly what you need to do to move the needle in your business (and your life!) And you know exactly what you need to delegate to others to free yourself up to make the contribution that only you can make to your business.

The problem is, they don't teach this in business school, nor do most business coaches. They tend to focus on "best practices," which is MBA-speak for conventional wisdom, which is another way of saying they teach you how to do what everybody else is doing.

Here's the dirty little secret of conventional wisdom. If you do what everybody else does, then by definition you can never be more than they are, which is average, if you do the math, and you can never hope for anything more than average results, because you're just like everybody else. You're average. And then, as a bonus for your trouble, you end up in that slow burn toward cognitive overload, and eventually flameout.
